Ambassadors for Jesus
Committed to Learning and Growing in Him

Any fan of movies starring Leonardo DiCaprio is in for another treat. This action packed, pychological thriller comes after his former "Shutter Island". Although "Inception" takes on more complexity, one is rewarded with some finer details into the inner workings of the mind and the motivation that drives us. Whether intentional or not, it challenges the viewer to question reality as they know it.
As I watched the movie I ran into wonderful insights the Lord has shown me regarding these things. For instance, there is an insightful scene where their "forger" says in order for inception (implanting a thought within the subconscious) to work, the subject needs to accept the thought, and accept it as his own. Yet, in order for him to buy into it as his own, it had to be subtle. They just needed to offer it and the subject would do the rest. Once implanted it would take root and grow.
That reminded me of a very vivid dream I had from the Lord a few years back. In this dream I watched a man lying on his bed, then I heard an evil voice tell him to watch dirty movies. It didn't yell it out or make demands, just directed the thought at him. He did as the voice told him and then I woke as the evil voice laughed because it knew it had fooled him into thinking the thought was his own.
I find this consistent with scripture. In the book of James we learn:
Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.
James 1:14-15
If the enemy can offer us the bait and we bite and feed off of it, he knows the lusts of the flesh will do the rest, or our own unrenewed minds.
Do know I am not saying the movie is totally in line with "The Truth". It does raise the question, "What is the truth and what is perception?" These are valid things to consider because some things are more grounded in our perceptions, something I like to challenge others to consider in our "Twilight Zone" section.
Whether a movie, a dream, or whatever else may be the tool, all needs to line up with the revealed Word of God found in Christ. We can find pieces of truths throughout life and with the Lord reconcil it to Christ while never losing sight of the simplicity in his gospel. The simplicity found in Christ will help us navigate through the maze of finer details and perceptions, and the enemy's lies as we rely on the Lord's Spirit. To use the lingo in the movie, Jesus is our "totem" so to speak. He is "The Truth", our Chief Cornerstone and firm foundation.
That said, "Inception" is an engaging and entertaining science
fiction, futuristic type movie that contains some pyschological truths into the structure and workings of the mind, and what motivates us. I found the overall structural concept similar to "The Matrix". And just like "The Matrix", I found myself watching it a few times to help with clarity. Furthermore, it contained a diverse set of characters and I enjoyed watching Leo and the others at work.
This was definitely one of the better movies I viewed last year and won't be surprised if I hear more of it in the future.
