The Mechanical Pencil

Lexi had her biofeedback appointment today at Neurology. Lexi is Autistic and she never leaves home without her art pad and mechanical pencil. Lexi recently started collecting these pencils, they also come with the replacement lead, so you can get really good use from these pencils.
Lexi had taken her art pad with the pencil and an extra lead, to fill the pencil if needed during her appointment. But shortly after she got out of the van, she dropped the extra piece of lead. It was impossible to find because it faded in with the color of the gravel. Although we could not find the lead before going in for our appointment, Lexi remained calm as I told her it was ok because the pencil still had enough lead for her to draw.
When we arrived to the appointment office and the first thing I noticed was this really neat mechanical pencil, along with an ordinary pen near the sign in sheet. I picked up the pencil and thought, "Oh~ Wow, how neat!" I thought it was odd for them to have this type of pencil. It was a top of the line mechanical pencil, not like the cheap ones we buy at Walmart.
I proceeded to sign in using the pencil, at the same time thinking, "What an odd thing that they would have such a pencil." Well, shortly after we sat down to wait for the therapist to call us, Lexi's pencil did not have enough lead as I had thought for her to continue to draw. Lexi began escalating quickly, as I was anticipating a meltdown, I totally forgot about the mechanical pencil on the counter. I calmly told her to relax, I am almost positive that I bought an extra pencil, but we needed to go back down to the van to check.
I could not believe as we searched and searched, that I had truly forgotten to bring the extra pencil! I was really disappointed in myself, because having a child with autism, I have learned to be a super mom and stay ahead of the ball game when it comes to meeting my child's needs! Lexi continued to escalate as we turned to go back to the office, although she sat back down, she was still very upset about not having her pencil. And before I could sit down I was quickly reminded about the pencil on the counter.
At that moment I realized what I thought was odd was simply God's way of showing me no matter how ahead of the ball game I tried to be, he is the one that hits the home runs and his timing is always perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
