During my travels in more than one circle I have heard the topic raised regarding seeing in black and white. Some believe things are as clear as black and white and others don't agree, feeling this restricts progress.
So which is it?
This is another area, as in many that I observe, where I see the need not to discard what may be an important piece to the puzzle but prayerfully view it in Light of the larger picture of Jesus and his Heart.
The superb "Sermon on the Mount" given by our Lord Jesus unveils much into the heart of God. It speaks of a purity of heart. This is God's beautiful, holy and privileged standard for us. We are commanded to be holy as God is holy for what fellowship can Light have with darkness? The Light, by its nature, will dispense of the darkness.
As we come to understand this honor that is our destiny, we come to understand why the precise and strict adherence regarding purification rituals were put in place in the old testament. Who could come near God without being utterly consumed by his purity? Our God is a consuming fire, you cannot expect to have the fullness of God without being utterly consumed by Him.
And we know this is why Christ came, to take our place and pay for our sins. Additionally, to open the door for us to now, in Him, draw close to our Heavenly Father where we are changed from glory to glory.
Out with the old, that only effected the exterior, and in with the new, that changes the interior and overflows into the exterior.
This is where black and white exists, in matters of the heart. We are to be pure of heart as God is. It is the awesome and captivating beauty of God.
At times we want to unite on the surface but I personally don't see black and white fitting into surface affairs as in advocating one surface way over another. Unless, of course, it springs from the deep recesses of God's Heart.
When it comes down to it, the heart of the matter is the matter of the heart. God can and does change the surface landscape in order to get us beyond it into the deep where He can connect us to his heart. Sometimes the surface can look quite odd to the undiscerning eyes and ears. If we are to see and hear from God's perspective, we need the eyes and ears of our hearts awakened to his. We can't do it, He does it as we come.
True seeing and hearing is a matter of being connected to the heart of God found in Jesus, a heart awakened in Him and his love. This is the difference between Spiritually seeing and hearing at the deepest level, and partaking of the knowledge of good and evil.
And remember, the blood of Jesus has us covered for the progressive journey in Him.
