In the Eye of the Beholder

Ever read a chapter in a book that really just sticks with you? The one below is one for me:
"The Mote and the Beam"
Excerpt from "The Calvary Road" by Roy Hession
(Click on book title for the insightful chapter and ebook)
It isn't just because it contains great insights, but due to seeing the validity in it for myself. What impresses me, once again, is the condition of the heart. If our hearts are not in tune with God, our sight and hearing will be darkened for true seeing and hearing will come from being connected to the Heart of God found in Jesus.
I personally have come to see the things brought up in this chapter along the lines of pride. Anything that puts us in the superior person's role is a distortion of the truth. Although it is true that IN CHRIST we move to Higher Ground, apart from the Lord we are no better than our brethren. He is our glory. This isn't anything we can personally boast about.
If anything, I think we can agree that the attitude of the heart speaks louder than words. I'm not sure how much I agree with all the finer details, or maybe just want to elaborate more on some things, yet I do solemnly agree with the overall picture regarding the bigger issue being the condition of our hearts. That may very well be what Jesus meant regarding "the beam".
